At times, I doubt which room I belong in. Don’t we all?
I get it too. It’s hard to be around people you don’t know, much less speak in front of them on stage. Did you get your points across? Did you share anything useful? Could anyone relate? Was it worth their time? Or yours?
The answer isn’t always obvious. So why do it?
Pictures say what words can’t express. I look at these pictures and I remember why I made it there.
In a time mostly burnt on online presence & perfect answers, why does it still matter to show up in person?
I’ll tell you my reason.
It’s because you and I, we are not artificial.
We don’t have to live like “them”, confined in disks and through wires without pizzas nor cakes, without warm handshakes nor a heartfelt embrace.
I refuse to be them. So I show up.
I show up in rooms where I feel uneasy. I stand on stages where I tend to say the wrong things. I fumble and mumble the words. I mess up my demo and lose my train of thoughts. It’s nerve-wracking, really.
I am no superpower. That’s just my nature. And so is yours. I guess that makes it ok.
So let’s try to meet again somewhere where we can be ordinary. No re-writes. No assistance.
Just us.
